Ready for your guide to creating a minimalistic bedroom boho style?
If you are like me, your Pinterest is filled with beautiful boho chic home decor. However, creating a bohemian bedroom is not always as easy as it looks, even if you have a free spirit at heart. This is why I jumped at the chance to photograph Christina’s beautiful, minimalistic boho bedroom.
Christina is an expert in boho fashion. Her and her twin sister have the clothing store, Ooh La Luxe, that has an amazing collection of bohemian fashion and accessories. Everything is hand selected by them personally, so Christina is certainly one of those incredible people who has a good eye for fashion, as well as home decor.
I have blogged about her before but what I really love about her styling is how she makes the most of the bohemian elements. Christina allows the elements to stand out boldly, with the true minimalist home decor strategy of ‘less is more’.
Interior design is one of my all-time favorite things to pin on Pinterest and like on Instagram (if you haven’t noticed yet!) I love a beautiful, creative space – that’s the Libra and the photographer in me. But, after being sick for the last few years, making a home that is truly mine is so important to me – not just in relation to physical surroundings but also for your mental health.
Creating a beautiful space that is truly your style – no matter how big or small your space is – I feel, is totally worth the investment both in terms of time and money.
As I write this, my teenage son has just left for his dad’s and he has left his dirty clothes everywhere, my corgis are shedding and my living room furniture has dog and cat hair all over it!
After I publish this blog article I am totally going to make my house as nice as this one so if you are not here yet don’t feel bad, I am right there with you.
To start let’s go over how to create a truly minimalistic bedroom for your master bedroom or maybe even a guest bedroom to really wow your friends when they stay with you next time.
Being a minimalist can be defined as somebody who wants to live with the least amount of possessions possible.
So, clutter be gone!
No more nick nacks or collections from grandma. Everything in your house or space has a purpose. Not only is this good on the wallet but the more minimalistic I live, the more I feel I have control over my environment. This drastically decreases my anxiety.
Being a single mom I am always feeling like I am losing everything and would lose my head if it wasn’t attached! Having a minimalist house and minimalistic life definitely helps me feel more in control.
Minimalist style is defined by clean lines, a neutral palette, and a stripped-down simplicity. This helps set a serene and tranquil space, perfect for relaxing and getting that much needed sleep you have been missing out on.
Here you can see the simple bedroom linens, simple bed and bedside tables. Everything is simple and neutral so the beautiful floor length mirror and plants really stand out, creating a neutral bohemian bedroom feel without being overwhelming.
Boho Bedroom furniture
Now, to me, bohemian style includes patterns and is colorful and bold. But as you can see, by using the right home decor accents and keeping your bedroom furniture simple, you can really make it bold and impactful.
What really makes this room pop, is the gold floor length Anthropologie mirror. Even before I saw it in Christina’s room I had been eyeballing it on the Anthropologie website – it’s simply gorgeous!
If you’re searching for something a little more affordable, here are some alternatives I have found.
Boho room decorations
By now, bohemian decorating should seem more obtainable for you, even if you are just getting started.
If you are on a smaller budget you can get some simple accessories like these pampas. As you can see there are not a lot of nick knacks on the walls. I might add some macramaid but what I really love about this room is the plants and the amazing wall planters.
These wall planters are perfect if you have toddlers like Christina does, as you can keep your plants safe from little hands and give you that minimalistic boho bedroom.
Decorating with plants is a whole blog post in itself. If you want to know more about how decorating with plants can help your health then check out my blog post here. I can’t wait to be adding plants to my house to help my health and overall air quality in my home.
If you want to see some serious indoor plant inspo then check out @Leafandlolo Instagram. She is an amazing interior plant designer.
